A Luxury Garden Route Road Trip Itinerary

One of the world’s greatest road trips, the Garden Route is something I strongly recommend that you try and fit into any South Africa itinerary. It can be a little overwhelming to plan as there is SO much to do here and countless tweaks you can make to suit your preferences and style of travel. Having done this trip twice myself now and learnt lots from it, I have finally put together my recommended 5 day Garden Route itinerary, with lots of variations to customise to your preferences.

Wilderness Travel Guide: Things to Do & Where to Eat

I love virtually everywhere I travel, yet despite this, I rarely return to the same place in favour of exploring somewhere new. South Africa is one (actually, if you don’t count visiting family abroad, the only) place that has managed to buck that trend. It is one of those destinations I will bang on endlessly about and if you ask we where to visit (it’s a pretty big country), I will more than likely tell you the Garden Route. Wilderness is one of the towns along this beautiful stretch of coastline that I highly recommend a day trip to and I have rounded up some of the best places to eat and things to do in Wilderness here.

Things to Do in Knysna: Your Ultimate Guide

Driving the Garden Route is arguably one of the world’s best road trips. It takes you on a 300km journey along the spectacular South African coastline with everything from lagoons, mountain passes, forests and of course, those infamous beaches. As this route’s unofficial “capital,” Knysna is almost a compulsory stop during your time here, whether you are looking for somewhere to base yourself while you explore this beautiful part of the world, or are just passing through. There are endless things to do in Knysna and the surrounding area, something I can personally attest to having recently spent three weeks on my latest trip there and having been busy exploring almost every single day!

Things to Do in Plettenberg Bay: Your Ultimate Guide

One of the must-visit destinations along South Africa’s iconic Garden Route, you won’t struggle to find things to do in Plettenberg Bay. The town that is often the start (or end) point of any Garden Route road trip has lots of attractions and is an ideal place to base yourself when exploring this part of the world.

I am a big fan of South Africa and for my most recent trip we had a bit of a debate as to whether we should stay in Knysna or Plettenberg Bay. We had previously stayed at Tsala Treetop Lodge as part of an epic two-and-a-bit week journey around the country, but this time we wanted to set a bit of a slower pace and just choose one base for our three weeks here.

A South Africa Packing List: Your Ultimate Guide

South Africa is one my most favourite countries in the world, so much so that I have now been twice (unusual for me) and is one of the few places that I pretty convinced everybody would like. The wildlife spotting opportunities are some of the best in the world, the food (and wine) is fantastic and scenery second to none.

If you are in the throes of planning a trip there, I am both incredibly jealous and very excited for you, however there are a few things that need to be included in your South Africa packing list that may not be immediately obvious.

On the contrary, the answer to what to wear in South Africa is surprisingly straightforward and shouldn’t have you running out to buy a whole new wardrobe (unless you want to of course!).
